Given that India has been a melting pot of culinary influences throughout its history, fusing with global cuisines and being modern-day besties was quite natural. Here are all the cuisines Indian food culture became best friends with.
Mughal influence brought biryanis, kebabs and pulaos, which Indians have now turned into vegetarian and vegan delights too!
The Turks, Afghans and Arabs brought samosas and naans, and we turned them into our favourites and even vessels for more fusion.
The Portuguese presence in India not only impacted Goan cuisine but also introduced the staple we all love, potatoes.
Don’t just think of veg Manchurian and street-side Hakka noodles, but also spicy Chinjabi favourites you can’t do without.
From biryanis to breads, the Jewish influence on Indian cuisine has been brought home by the Bene Israelis and Baghdadi Jews.
From momos available on every street corner today to thukpas becoming our comfort foods, Tibetan cuisine feels like home cooking now.
The Italians gave us pizza and pasta, and we turned both desi with amazing veg and non-veg curry and tandoori flavours.
More recent than most influences, the Japanese had no idea sushi and miso curries can be vegetarian before they met Indians.
Though still relatively niche, Korean kimchi and gochujang have already made their impact on dosas, curries and even biryanis.
The most obvious one for last, because the Americans can us burgers, sandwiches and brownies that Indians have now made their own.
