Forget South Indian, Try Gujarati Gotala Dosa

Most people know that dosa is a South Indian dish, however, it's one variant belongs to Gujarat. Not only is it different from the kind of dosa you are used to devouring, but it also contains paneer and cheese that make it irresistible. Follow this recipe to make Gotala or Ghotala Dosa at home.

Ingredients

1 cup urad dal 4 cups rice ¼ cup poha 8-10 methi dana 1 tablespoon chana and tur dal Salt to taste 1 chopped tomato 1 chopped spring onion 200g paneer 100g cheese 4 tablespoons chopped coriander 100g butter 2 tablespoons pav bhaji masala 1 teaspoon red chilli powder 1 teaspoon black pepper

Step 1

Soak rice, lentils, and fenugreek seeds overnight. In the morning, soak poha and grind all the ingredients to make a smooth paste.

Step 2

Allow the mixture to ferment for at least 8 hours. Transfer some into a deep bowl and add water to adjust the consistency and salt to taste.

Step 3

Spread the dosa batter on a hot pan and leave to cook for at least 2-3 minutes until the base solidifies. 

Step 4

Add chopped spring onions, red onions (optional), green chillies (optional), and tomatoes on the top.

Step 5

Sprinkle pav bhaji masala, red chilli powder, and black pepper powder. Add half a tablespoon of butter, coriander leaves, and grated paneer on the top and put on the lid.

Step 6

Grate cheese and cook. After a couple of minutes serve gotala dosa with your favourite chutney.
