Refrigeration can extend the life of many foods, but some are best left out of the cold. Storing some foods in the fridge can change their taste, texture, or nutritional value. Here are 7 foods that should not be stored in the fridge.
Cold converts the starch in potatoes into sugar, making them sweeter and grainier. Store them in a cool, dark place instead.
Refrigerating onions makes them soft and mouldy due to the high humidity. Store them in a dry, well-ventilated area away from potatoes to prevent sprouting.
Garlic becomes rubbery and loses its flavour in the fridge. Store it in a dry, dark place, and it will keep for months.
Cold makes tomatoes lose their flavour and become mushy. Store them at room temperature to keep their natural taste and texture.
Refrigerating honey causes it to crystallise and become grainy. It is naturally preserved and should be stored at room temperature.
Cold makes bread dry and stale. Store it in a breadbox or sealed bag on the counter.
Refrigerate to slow down the ripening process and turn the peels black.
