Vegetarian Shammi kabab is a savory Indian appetizer made from chana dal, mashed peas, and spices. It is shaped into patties and shallow-fried until golden brown.
1 cup chana dal (split Bengal gram) 1/2 cup green peas, boiled and mashed 2 medium-sized onions, chopped 3-4 green chillies, chopped 1 tsp ginger paste 1 tsp garlic paste 1 tsp red chilli powder 1 tsp coriander powder 1/2 tsp cumin powder 1/2 tsp garam masala powder Salt to taste Oil for frying
Wash and soak chana dal in water for about 3 hours. Drain the water and cook the dal with 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker for 2-3 whistles.
Now in a pan sauté chopped onions, green chillies, ginger paste, and garlic paste.
Now Add red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, and salt to the pan and mix well.
Add the boiled and mashed green peas and cooked chana dal to the pan and mix well.
Cook for 5-7 minutes on low flame. Turn off the flame and let it cool down. Now blend it smooth.
Now make patties and shallow fry them until golden brown on both sides. Serve hot with mint chutney or ketchup.
