If you haven’t tried the Finnish porridge made for Christmas, it is high time that you do because it is packed with lots of significance.
In Finland, a special porridge called Riisipuuro is prepared on Christmas morning and eaten by everyone in the family.
For the unversed, it is a sweet Finnish dish. A cross between a pudding and porridge, it is made with slow-cooked and steamed rice.
The sweet rice porridge usually has an almond in the centre that is hidden carefully so that whoever finds it first gets to make a special wish on Christmas.
Not just a wish, it is also said to attract good fortune and good luck. The best tale suggests that whoever finds the almond is destined to get married soon.
It isn’t just the positive association but also the great taste and nutritional value of Riisipuuro that makes it a warm and soothing delight in winters.
