Janmashtami marks the birthday of Lord Krishna. In different parts of India, the festival is celebrated differently. But most important Indian festivals are celebrated with a fast. It can be confusing to know how to fast without having it hinder your health. Here are 6 tips to follow while fasting!

Prep Ahead

Before you jump into the fasting process, make sure you have all the fasting items like makhana (fox nuts), buckwheat, sabudana (tapioca pearls) etc.

Reduce Your Portion Size

If you haven't fasted in a long time or are fasting for the first time, it's better to ready your body for this process. You can do so by reducing your portion sizes in your previous day meals.

Eat The Right Foods

During the fasting process, find out what fruits are acceptable to be eaten and indulge in them so your daily hydration is done and your stamina is built.

Eat More Nuts Than Snacks

When you're given the green light to finish fasting, start off by munching a few nuts instead of processed snacks. They add more nutrition and crunch.

Exercise With Caution

Avoid high-intensity workouts as the body might feel weak during a fast. You can still exercise if your body feels comfortable doing it.

Hydrate Yourself

It's important you drink as many electrolytes as you can, in the absence of solid food. Find out what natural juices and liquid dishes like soups are allowed and try to consume a lot of them.
