Fasting during sawan is a popular ritual adopted by many devotees of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Many of them give up onion, garlic, and meat for an entire month. Here is an easy no onion and garlic recipe for lauki ki sabzi that you can relish while fasting.
1 cup diced bottle gourd ½ cup water Salt to taste 1 tsp cumin seeds ½ tbsp ghee or oil 1 chopped green chilli ½ tsp red chilli powder 1 tsp lemon juice 1 tbsp coriander leaves
Buy a fresh bottle gourd, peel it, and dice it into medium size bites. Wash it thoroughly.
In a pressure cooker or kadhai, heat oil, and add cumin seeds and green chillies. You can have a teaspoon of grated ginger too.
Once the seeds start to crackle, add diced bottle gourd and stir the ingredients. You can add turmeric if you consume it while fasting.
Add salt to taste, water, and chilli powder before putting on the lid. Let the bottle gourd cook.
Wait for 2-3 whistles in a pressure cooker or until the bottle gourd turns soft in the kadhai.
Top it with lemon juice and coriander leaves. Serve with rice, rajgira roti, or kuttu ki puri.
