Adding excess salt by accident in a curry is a common occurrence in the kitchen. However, this little mistake can ruin an entire meal and all your hard work with it. Here are some foolproof tips to reduce salt in a gravy without panicking.
If your curry is ready but has a lot of salt in it, add flour dough to it. Make small, manchurian-size balls and add them to the gravy. Let them simmer for 10 minutes and remove them.
Milk can be an excellent addition to any gravy if it has salt in excess. Not only will it balance the flavours but also add creaminess and richness to the recipe.
Much like flour dough, boiled potatoes can also absorb excess salt from the curry. Add these to the gravy, and in 5 minutes, you will taste balanced notes.
Much like milk, curd is also an excellent ingredient you can add to curry if it has an excess amount of salt. However, keep stirring the gravy to prevent curdling.
A tablespoon each of sugar and vinegar can balance the salt in the gravy. The sour and sweet notes will add a depth of flavour to the recipe.
Fresh cream can also help to bring down the level of salt in curry. It will make the gravy creamier, thick, and rich in taste and aroma.
Raw or fried onions can soak excess salt. Adding them to the recipe is a good idea if you have accidentally added more salt to the gravy.
