Monsoons call for comfort food, and what’s better than homemade puri chole to enjoy the rainy days? Here’s a simple recipe to make this delicious treat.
1 cup chickpeas (chole), soaked overnight 2 onions, finely chopped 2 tomatoes, pureed 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste 2 green chilies, slit 1 tsp cumin seeds 1 tsp turmeric powder 1 tsp coriander powder 1 tsp garam masala Salt to taste Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
2 cups whole wheat flour 1 tsp salt 1 tbsp oil Water as needed Oil for frying
Pressure cook soaked chickpeas with salt until tender. In a pan, heat oil, add cumin seeds, then onions. Sauté until golden. Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, cook for 2 minutes.
Add tomato puree, turmeric, coriander powder, and garam masala. Cook until oil separates. Add cooked chickpeas and simmer for 10 minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves.
Mix flour, salt, and oil. Add water gradually and knead into a firm dough. Let it rest for 15 minutes. Divide dough into small balls, roll out into small discs.
Heat oil in a pan, fry puris until golden and puffed. Drain on paper towels. Enjoy hot puris with spicy chole, perfect for a rainy day.
