While you might already have semiya in stock to celebrate Eid, try making semiya upma for a healthy South Indian breakfast. Made with just roasted vermicelli, veggies, and spices, it’s the perfect recipe for a quick breakfast.
1 cup semiya 1.5 tablespoons oil 1 teaspoon mustard seeds ½ teaspoon urad dal 1 teaspoon chana dal 1 dried red chilli Pinch of hing 1 inch ginger 2 green chillies 1 onion ½ teaspoon turmeric powder Salt to taste 1 cup water ½ cup vegetables of your choice Coriander leaves for garnish
Heat some oil and saute mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, and dried red chilli. Add hing and mix.
Add grated ginger and chopped green chillies. Mix in chopped onions and vegetables and cook till tender.
Season with turmeric powder and salt. Pour in some water and let it boil.
Add in roasted vermicelli and stir well. Cool for 5-10 minutes.
Turn off the heat, garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve.
