Dosa is arguably the most popular Indian breakfast meal and it is often served with coconut chutney and sambar. However, apart from these two, the tomato chutney also makes a flavourful accompaniment to the staple Indian crepe. Here's a recipe for you:
4 tomatoes 1 onion 2-3 garlic cloves 2-3 dried red chillies 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds 1 teaspoon urad dal 1 teaspoon chana dal 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida (hing) 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder 1 tablespoon of tamarind paste Salt to taste 2 tablespoons of oil Fresh coriander leaves
Heat 1 tablespoon of oil. Add the chillies, garlic, and onion. Cook until translucent.
Add tomatoes. Cook until soft. Add turmeric, salt, and tamarind. Cook 2-3 minutes. Let it cool and blend to a smooth paste.
Heat the remaining oil. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, and asafoetida. Sauté until golden.
Mix the chutney with the tempering and cook for 2 minutes. Garnish with coriander and serve with dosa.
