Easy Recipe For South Indian Tamarind Rice

Nothing beats the comfort that South Indian rice recipes bring to your soul. Among many of them, tamarind rice is perfect to indulge irrespective of the weather. Follow this step-by-step guide to achieve authentic taste at home.

Ingredients

1 cup rice Water as needed Salt as needed ½ tsp turmeric, sesame seeds ¼ tsp fenugreek, pepper 2 tsp chana, urad dal 4-6 dry red chillies 2 tsp coriander seeds 50 grams tamarind 1 tsp mustard 3 tbsp oil ½ tsp hing 10-12 curry leaves 2 tsp jaggery powder

Step 1

Rinse rice and soak the grains for a while. Pressure cook it for 3 whistles.

Step 2

Spread the grains over a plate and let them cool off. Meanwhile, soak tamarind in hot water and squeeze the pulp.

Step 3

Heat oil in a kadhai and add turmeric, mustard seeds, and hing. Roast chana and urad dal with red chillies.

Step 4

Once the ingredients are roasted, add rice to the kadhai along with tamarind pulp.

Step 5

Let the ingredients cook along with a sprinkle of salt.

Step 6

Turn off the flame and temper the grains with mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, curry leaves, and red chillies.
