Nothing beats a cup of hot chocolate on a chilly winter night. Hot chocolate is the quintessential winter drink that exudes comfort. The drink is made using warm spices that blend harmoniously with chocolate. This is a cosier version of regular hot chocolate for you to try.

2 cups of milk 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste) 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger 1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom A pinch of ground cloves A pinch of black pepper 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract Whipped cream and chocolate shavings for garnish (optional)

Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Take care not to allow it to boil.

Combine the cocoa powder, sugar, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, and black pepper in a small mixing bowl. Stir until thoroughly blended.

When the milk has reached a simmer, add the dry ingredients to the saucepan. Continuously whisk to ensure the cocoa mixture is thoroughly absorbed into the milk.

Continue to heat and whisk until the hot chocolate is well blended and the temperature you want is attained, then add the vanilla extract.

For extra decadence, top each mug with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
