Kombucha is a fermented drink that is created using bacteria and yeast culture, which is often known as SCOBY (symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast) in addition to water, sugar, and black tea. The drink is supposed to be beneficial for your digestive system, especially during the summer season. Here's a recipe to try:
1 SCOBY 1 cup of starter tea 7 cups of filtered water ½ cup of granulated sugar 4-6 tea bags
Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a large pot.
Add the tea bags to the hot water and let them steep for about 10–15 minutes.
Stir in the sugar until it is completely dissolved. Let the tea mixture cool to room temperature.
Transfer the cooled tea to the glass jar. Add the remaining 3 cups of filtered water and the starter tea. Gently place the SCOBY on top of the liquid.
Cover the jar with a cloth or paper towel secured with a rubber band. Place the jar in a warm, dark place away from direct sunlight. Let it ferment for 7–14 days.
After 7 days, taste the kombucha. If it's too sweet, let it ferment for longer. If it's too tart, it's ready for the next step. Refrigerate to slow down fermentation. Your kombucha is ready to be enjoyed.
