Learn to make Homemade Besan Chilla, a savoury Indian pancake. Packed with gram flour, veggies, and fragrant spices, it’s a wholesome option for breakfast, brunch, or an evening snack.
1 cup besan (gram flour) ¼ cup finely chopped onions ¼ cup finely chopped tomatoes ¼ cup chopped coriander leaves ½ tsp finely chopped green chillies ½ tsp finely chopped ginger ½ tsp carom seeds (ajwain) 2-3 pinches turmeric powder ¼ tsp red chilli powder ½-⅔ cup water Salt as required Oil as required
Take 1 cup of gram flour in a mixing bowl.
Add onions, tomatoes, ginger, green chillies, carom seeds, coriander leaves, and spices to the bowl.
Add ½ cup water and whisk to create a smooth batter.
If the batter is thick, add 1-3 tbsp more water for a flowing consistency.
Heat a frying pan on medium heat and lightly grease it with oil. Pour a ladle of batter onto the pan and spread gently into a circular shape.
Cook on low flame until the top is set, then drizzle oil around the edges. Flip the chilla and cook until golden spots appear.
Fold the chilla and serve it hot with chutney or yoghurt.
