Fafda is a crispy and savoury snack from Gujarat that is now enjoyed across the country. Made with besan and spices, it is a light snack that is often paired with an elaborate meal.
1 cup besan ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder ½ teaspoon red chilli powder ¼ teaspoon ajwain (carom seeds) ¼ teaspoon baking soda Salt to taste 2-3 tablespoons oil Water for kneading Oil for deep frying
Mix besan, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, ajwain, baking soda, and salt.
Add 2-3 tablespoons of water, and knead a stiff dough. Make it smooth using some oil.
Take small portions of the dough and roll each portion in a cylindrical shape.
To make a signature fafda, take one end of the cylindrical dough and press it gently. Repeat with other end to create a loop with two twists.
Heat some oil and deep fry to make crispy fafdas. Serve with chutney.
