Cooking basmati rice is no art but an easy task that seasoned chefs can carry out in their sleep. It has a few steps that you need to follow to quickly cook the grains while keeping their texture and taste intact. Here is an easy-to-follow guide.

Ingredients

1.5 cups water 1 cup basmati rice A pinch of salt 1 tsp oil 1 star anise (optional) ½-inch cinnamon (optional) 2 cloves (optional)

Step 1

Rinse rice grains thoroughly under tap water at least 2-3 times to remove excess starch. This will prevent grains from sticking.

Step 2

Soak the rice for at least 20-30 minutes before cooking. It expands the grains and helps to achieve the length while cooking.

Step 3

Drain the water and add soaked rice to the pressure cooker. Add fresh water to the cooker.

Step 4

After adding oil and salt, you can add spices like cinnamon, star anise, and cloves to infuse aroma into rice grains.

Step 5

Close the lid and wait for 1-2 whistles to go off. Keep the flame to medium-high at all times.

Step 6

Release the heat of the pressure cooker, open it, and serve hot rice with curry or dal.
