This coffee cake will become your new favourite accompaniment for your cup of coffee and tea. What's different is that, unlike regular coffee cake, this version incorporates cream cheese, which gives it a smoother texture and a more nuanced flavour. Here's a recipe for you to try:
1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened 1 cup granulated sugar 2 large eggs 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1/2 cup sour cream 1/4 cup of milk 8 oz. cream cheese, softened 1/4 cup granulated sugar 1 large egg 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 cup granulated sugar 2 tablespoons cold, unsalted butter 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan. Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
Cream butter and sugar, then beat in eggs and vanilla. Alternately add dry ingredients, sour cream, and milk to the wet mixture.
Pour half the batter into the pan. Spread the cream cheese mixture on top. Top with the remaining batter.
Combine the streusel ingredients until crumbly; sprinkle over the batter.
Bake for 45–50 minutes. Cool before slicing and serving.
