Crunchy and spicy, the spiral shaped Chakli are a delicious fried snacks that are popular across the country. This popular savoury food is made with various kinds of flours, herbs and warm Indian spices. Chakli snack is loved for its texture and flavour. Take a look at the recipe here:
2 cups rice flour 1 cup chickpea flour (besan) 2 tablespoons butter (softened) 1 teaspoon sesame seeds 1 teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain) 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 1 teaspoon red chili powder 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon asafoetida (hing) Salt to taste Water as needed Oil for deep frying
In a large bowl, combine rice flour, chickpea flour, sesame seeds, carom seeds, cumin seeds, red chili powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida, and salt. Add softened butter to the dry mixture and mix well until the flour is crumbly.
Gradually add water, kneading the mixture into a soft, smooth dough.
Grease a Chakli maker and fill it with dough. Press out spirals onto a butter paper or flat surface.
Heat oil in a deep frying pan. Carefully drop the shaped Chaklis into the hot oil. Fry on medium heat until golden brown and crispy.
Remove the Chaklis with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Let them cool completely before storing.
