Dal dhokli is a traditional dish often associated with Rajasthani and Gujarati cuisine. It features a flavourful lentil gravy with wheat dumplings submerged in it. Here is a recipe for you to try:
1 cup toor dal 2 tomatoes, chopped 1-2 green chillies, slit 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder 1 teaspoon red chilli powder 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida (hing) 1 tablespoon ginger, grated 1 tablespoon garlic, minced 2 teaspoons of jaggery or sugar 2 tablespoons of tamarind pulp Salt 2 tablespoons of oil or ghee Fresh coriander leaves
Dhokli: 1 cup whole wheat flour 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain) Salt Water
Cook and mash toor dal slightly. Heat oil/ghee. Add cumin, mustard seeds, hing, ginger, garlic and sauté.
Add tomatoes, chillies, turmeric, and red chilli powder. Cook until soft. Add dal, jaggery, tamarind, and salt. Simmer for 10–15 min.
Mix flour, spices, and salt. Add water to make the dough. Roll out and cut into diamonds.
Add dhokli to dal. Cook until tender. Add coriander leaves.
