Sushi rice, also known as sushimeshi in Japanese, is a short-grain rice seasoned with sugar, salt, and vinegar. It is known for its sticky texture and plays a key role in holding sushi. Here's how you can make it at home:
2 cups of short-grain sushi rice 2 cups of water 1/4 cup of rice vinegar 2 tablespoons of sugar 1 teaspoon salt
Rinse 2 cups of rice until the water runs clear.
Cook rice with 2 cups of water in a rice cooker or pot. Heat 1/4 cup rice vinegar, 2 tbsp sugar, and 1 tsp salt until dissolved.
Pour the vinegar mix over the hot rice; gently fold to mix.
Let the rice cool to room temperature before using.
