Durga Puja is incomplete without lavish eating and feasting. Mutton is an important part of Bengali culture during Durga Puja. Try this Mutton Dak Bungalow Curry Recipe!
500g mutton (bone-in) 2 medium potatoes 2 large onions 2 tomatoes 2 green chilies 1 tbsp. ginger-garlic paste 1 tsp. turmeric powder 1 tsp. red chilli powder 1 tsp. cumin powder 1 tsp. coriander powder 1 tsp. garam masala powder
2-3 bay leaves 4-5 cloves 4-5 black peppercorns 2-3 cardamom pods 1-inch cinnamon stick 1 cup thick yoghurt 1/4 cup mustard oil Salt to taste Fresh coriander (for garnish)
Marinate the mutton with yoghurt, turmeric, red chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt for 2-3 hours.
Fry the potato halves and saute the whole spices: bay leaves, cloves, cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, and peppercorns.
Add sliced onions and cook until golden brown. Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and cook for 2-3 minutes.
Add tomatoes and green chillies. Add the marinated mutton to the pan and stir well. Simmer until cooked with water as required.
Once the mutton is cooked, add the fried potatoes and finish with garam masala.
Garnish with freshly chopped coriander and serve hot.
