There is something special about pairing crispy and savoury dosa with a side of tangy tomato chutney. This Sout Indian delicacy not only satisfies the taste buds but also provides a burst of flavours. Here’s how you can make tomato chutney to accompany dosa.

Ingredients

4 ripe tomatoes, chopped 1 onion, finely chopped 2-3 dry red chilies 3-4 garlic cloves 1-inch ginger, chopped 1 tablespoon oil 1 teaspoon mustard seeds 1 teaspoon urad dal (split black gram) A pinch of asafoetida (hing) Salt to taste 1 tablespoon tamarind paste Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Step 1

Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add urad dal and sauté until golden brown.

Step 2

Add dry red chillies, chopped onion, garlic, and ginger. Saute until onions turn translucent. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.

Step 3

Now, add salt to taste, tamarind paste and a pinch of asafoetida. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.

Step 4

Allow the mixture to cool down slightly and transfer it to a blender and blend into a smooth paste. Transfer the chutney back to the pan and simmer for a couple of minutes until it reaches your desired consistency.

Step 5

Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
