A horizontal bottle keeps the cork moist, so it doesn’t dry out and shrink.
The air gap in a wine bottle has almost 100% humidity, so cork will not dry out as long as there is wine in the bottle.
The cork does a lot to protect a wine from its frenemy oxygen, if the wine is upright, the liquid can’t stay in constant contact with the cork.
This will allow the seal on the bottle to loosen, and more oxygen to seep in and spoil the wine
Storing the Wine horizontally also saves a lot of space.
Keeping it horizontal will prevent air from getting in and spoiling your wine.
Horizontal wine bottles keeps the wine at the same temperature.
