This dish is a favourite in the Parsi household. It is made up of Dhan (rice), Dar (yellow arhar or toor dal), and Patio (prawns or fish in a sweet-sour tomato sauce). It can be eaten at any time, but it is most common during festivals. This simple but tasty food is always a hit at every Parsi table, no matter the time of year or the reason. As comfort foods, they eat this.
1 cup tooar or arhar dal (pigeon peas) 3 cups of water 1tsp salt 1/2tsp Haldi powder 5/6 cloves of garlic chopped 1tsp jeera whole 1tbsp of ghee To serve - Rice and Fried onions
After washing the dal, let it soak for 30 minutes. You can put the dal, water, salt, and haldi in a pressure cooker. Cook it for two whistles.
Mash the dal till it becomes a smooth paste after releasing the steam. Heat up some ghee, jeera, and garlic in a saucepan. Ensure it is brown. Add the dal purée and continue cooking until it thickens.
As soon as it is cooked, serve it hot with rice, onions that have been browned, and an achar or patio!
