Fried modak is a tasty variation of the original recipe, where it is deep-fried instead of steamed. The dessert is known for its crispy exterior and flavourful interior due to the coconut and jaggery filling. Here's an easy for you to try:
1 cup all-purpose flour 2 tbsp ghee Water (as needed) Oil for frying Filling: 1 cup grated coconut 1 cup grated jaggery 1/2 tsp cardamom powder 2 tbsp chopped nuts (optional)
Mix flour and ghee. Add water gradually to form a soft dough and let it rest for 15 minutes.
Cook coconut and jaggery in a pan until combined. Add cardamom and nuts and let it cool.
Roll small dough balls into discs. Place filling in the centre, fold, and shape into modaks.
Heat oil and fry modaks until golden brown. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
