While ordering takeout Chinese food is never a bad idea, recreating similar flavours at home can also help preserve the nutritional value of your food. Experimenting with a versatile recipe such as these wok-tossed chowmein noodles can be a gratifying experience you’d want to replicate many times over.
½ packet egg noodles, cooked 1 small onion, sliced 5-6 cloves garlic, chopped 200 grams chicken thighs, cubed 1 carrot, julienned 1 red bell pepper, sliced 6 spring onions, chopped 1.5 tablespoons vegetable oil Salt, to taste
4 teaspoons corn flour 2 tablespoons soya sauce 1 tablespoon fish sauce 1 tablespoon green chilli sauce 1 teaspoon sugar 1 teaspoon sesame oil 1 teaspoon white pepper
Combine all the ingredients for the sauce and set aside in a small bowl.
Season the chicken thighs with salt and pepper, while you heat the oil in a large pan or work.
Add the sliced onion and garlic to sauté on a high heat for 2 minutes, before adding in the chicken and continuing to cook for 3 minutes.
Add the carrot, red bell pepper and reserved sauce, along with a bit of water to ensure that the chicken cooks through.
Once everything comes to a boil, toss in the noodles and adjust seasoning if needed.
Coat the noodles with the sauce, while combining it with the protein and vegetables.
Turn off the heat and add in the spring onions. Mix well and serve hot.
