Bread pakoda is a popular North-Indian snack that combines soft bread with spicy potato filling, dipped in a gram flour batter, and deep-fried. Crisp on the outside, warm and flavourful inside, it’s a comforting treat, especially with tea on chilly days.
4 slices of bread (white or brown) 2 boiled potatoes 1 green chilli 1/2 tsp cumin seeds 1/2 tsp turmeric powder 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp garam masala 1 tbsp coriander leaves 1 cup gram flour (besan) 1/4 tsp ajwain (carom seeds) 1/4 tsp baking soda Water Salt Oil
Heat a teaspoon of oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
Add mashed potatoes, green chilli, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well.
Add coriander leaves and cook for 2-3 minutes. Let it cool. In a bowl, mix gram flour, ajwain, baking soda, and salt. Add water gradually to make a smooth, thick batter.
Cut bread slices diagonally to form triangles. Spread the potato filling between two bread triangles.
Dip the stuffed bread into the gram flour batter, coating it evenly. Heat oil in a deep pan. Fry the bread pakodas on medium heat until golden brown and crisp.
