Dapka Nu Shaak: A Quick and Easy Besan Curry from Gujarat

When you're short on time and ingredients, here's a recipe that will save the day. This dish is extremely similar to its more famous cousin, Gatte ki sabzi, however, it is made with ingredients that can be found in any kitchen. 

For Dapka Batter 

½ cup Besan ¼ tsp Haldi Powder ½ tsp Red Chilli Powder 1 tsp Amchoor Powder ½ tsp Coriander Seed Powder ¼ tsp Saunf ¼ tsp Ajwain Seeds 1 tbsp Dahi Water to make a smooth batter

For Tadka 

1 tsp Oil ½ tsp Jeera Seeds A pinch of hing 1 small cinnamon 1 Bay Leaf Some Crushed Coriander seeds & saunf ½ tsp Red Chilli Powder 1 glass of water Salt & a little Sugar Some Kasoori Methi 

Step 1 

In a mixing bowl add all the ingredients of batter and mix it to create a consistency that should not be super thin.  

Step 2

In a kadhai, heat oil and add jeera and hing, 1 small cinnamon, 1 Bay Leaf, Some Crushed Coriander seeds & saunf, ½ tsp Red Chilli Powder. Give it a stir and add a glass of water. Let it come to a boil.  

Step 3

Now add dollops of batter, dapka to it.  Do not stir it for 2 to 3 minutes and cover it for a while. Sprinkle kasoori methi and gently stir.  Your Dapka nu shaak is ready to served.
