Gujarat is a haven for street food lovers. You would find plenty of snacks beyond your standard dhokla, fafda, khakhra on the streets, like Dabeli-Gujarat's own burger.
Dabeli is a sweet snack where boiled potatoes and sweet dabeli masala is placed inside a ladi pav (burger bun) and served with chutneys made from tamarind, date, garlic, red chilies etc.
The Dabeli masala is the hero of Dabeli and it is a dry masala made with dried red-chillies, black-pepper powder, dried coconut, salt, clove, cinnamon, coriander, cumin etc.
Dabeli, also known as Kutchi Dabeli, originated in the region of Kutch. And the word Dabeli means ‘pressed’ in Gujarati, since the buns are pressed before serving.
The shop is still owned by his family with Dabeli being the most hot selling item.
