Curry Leaves Chutney : Tangy South Indian Side

This is a simple and healthy chutney or condiment prepared with fresh curry leaves and coconut. It is an ideal side dish for morning breakfast particularly for idli and dosa. But it also tastes great when served as a side dish for dal rice or rasam rice combo.

Ingredients

2 tsp oil 2 clove garlic 1 inch ginger 2 green chilli ½ cup curry leaves 1 cup coconut, grated Small ball sized tamarind 2 tbsp peanuts, roasted ½ tsp salt ½ cup water For tempering: 2 tsp oil ¾ tsp mustard ½ tsp urad dal Few curry leaves

Step 1

Heat oil and roast garlic, ginger and green chilli. Roast until the garlic turns golden brown. Now add curry leaves and continue to roast until the leaves turn crisp. Cool completely and transfer the mixture to the blender.

Step 2

Add grated coconut. Also add small ball sized tamarind, peanuts and salt. Blend to a smooth paste adding water. Now prepare the tempering by sauteing mustard and urad dal in oil with curry leaves. Serve chutney with dosa or idli.
