Onion Bhajiya is crispy, deep-fried pakodas made with onions, gram flour, and spices—a popular Indian snack, perfect for rainy days or as a tea-time treat.
2 large onions, thinly sliced 1 cup gram flour (besan) 2 tablespoons rice flour (optional, for extra crispiness) 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon chilli powder (adjust to taste) Salt to taste Water (as needed) Oil for deep-frying Fresh coriander leaves (a garnish)
Start by thinly slicing the onions and separating them into rings.
Mix gram flour, rice flour, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, chilli powder, and salt in a bowl. Add water to make a thick batter.
Heat oil in a deep frying pan. Dip onion rings in the batter and coat them evenly.
Carefully drop the coated onion rings into the hot oil. Fry in batches until golden brown and crispy.
Remove the bhajiyas with a spoon and drain the excess oil on the napkins.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves, if desired. Serve hot with mint chutney.
