Crispy And Delicious Benne Dosa: A Step-By-Step Guide

A unique way of preparing the traditional dosa recipe originated from Davanagere, Karnataka. The dosa batter is unique and is prepared with rice, urad dal and puffed rice for extra softness. Here is how to make benne dosa at home: 

Ingredients

3 cups dosa rice ½ tsp methi/fenugreek seeds 1 cup urad dal 2 cup puffed rice 1½ tsp salt oil for roasting butter for roasting

Step 1

Blend soaked urad dal to smooth paste adding water as required.

Step 2

Transfer the smooth and fluffy batter to a large bowl.

Step 3

In the blender blend dosa rice, methi to a slightly coarse paste adding water as required.

Step 4

Transfer the rice batter to the bowl of urad dal batter. Take washed & squeezed puffed rice in a blender. and blend to a smooth paste.

Step 5

Mix well making sure everything is combined well. Now cover and rest in a warm place for 8-10 hours. Add salt to the batter and mix well.

Step 6

Heat the griddle and pour a ladleful of batter. Spread out in a circular motion slightly thicker than regular masala dosa.

Step 7

Spread oil from the sides of the dosa. Now add butter spreading all the sides of the dosa.

Step 8

Roast the dosa to a golden brown on both sides. Fold the dose into half and serve with chutney.
