The summer season screams for desserts like ice creams, frozen custards, gelato, and more. This is a delicious frozen dessert that is made using staple pantry ingredients and it is extremely silky, creamy, and dense. The chocolate flavour is a great addition that makes it even more indulgent. Here's a quick recipe for you to try.
2 cups whole milk 1 cup heavy cream 3/4 cup granulated sugar 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 4 large egg yolks 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Pinch of salt Optional toppings: chocolate shavings, chopped nuts, whipped cream
Heat milk, cream, sugar, cocoa, and salt in a saucepan until hot but not boiling, stirring to dissolve sugar and cocoa.
Whisk egg yolks in a bowl, then slowly add hot milk mixture to temper eggs.
Return mixture to saucepan and cook over medium-low heat until thickened, about 5-7 minutes. Do not boil.
Remove from heat, stir in vanilla, and cool slightly. Strain custard into a bowl, cover, and chill for 4 hours or overnight.
Churn custard in an ice cream maker until soft-serve consistency. Fold in optional toppings during the last few minutes of churning.
Freeze churned custard until firm, about 4 hours. Serve topped with whipped cream and more toppings.
