Craving Moong Dal Khichdi? Give It A South Indian Twist

In summer, you often experience the urge to eat a fulfilling and comforting meal but it should be lightweight on the stomach. By preparing moong dal khichdi with a South Indian twist, you can prepare a delicious meal and enjoy it for lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

½ cup rice ½ cup moong dal 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 2 tablespoons ghee 1 teaspoon chopped ginger ½ chopped tomatoes ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder ½ chopped onion 3.5 cups water ½ teaspoon chopped green chillies ¼ teaspoon red chilli powder Salt to taste A pinch of asafoetida

Step 1

Rinse and wash rice and moong dal and soak the raw ingredients for at least 30 minutes.

Step 2

Heat ghee, add cumin seeds, and wait for them to splutter. Add a pinch of hing and pour in chopped tomatoes.

Step 3

Add tomatoes, green chillies, and ginger once the onions become translucent. Saute the ingredients with salt to taste.

Step 4

Add turmeric powder and red chilli powder to the pan. Saute the spices until the tomatoes turn mushy.

Step 5

Add lentils and rice to the pressure cooker and add water. Cook everything for 1-2 whistles.

Step 6

Top it with coriander leaves and serve it hot. Enjoy with papad and buttermilk on the side.
