Onions are considered one of the most important ingredients in countless dishes. They not only add flavours but also depth to everything from soups and stews to stir-fries and sandwiches. But have you ever imagines what do to when you’re set for preparing a meal and you run out of onions. Fret not. There are several fantastic onion alternatives. Shallots 

Referred to as ‘little onions,’ shallots are a close alternative to onions. However, they are milder and sweeter in flavour. They are used in salads dressings, sauces and vinaigrettes.

Leeks 

They are mild and slightly sweet in taste and can be used as a substitute of onions. They are mostly used in soups, casseroles and even quinches.

Scallions 

Also known as green onions, shallions are a perfect garnishing ingredient. They are milder than onions in flavour. They taste great in salads, omelettes, and a final touch to stir-fries.

Garlic 

Although garlic has a distinct taste and flavour, it can be used as a substitute of onions. Although very little is needed as per the quantity of onion.
