Cocoa and cacao are both derived from the same plant, the Theobroma cacao tree, but they are processed differently and have some differences in their nutritional content and flavour. Here are five differences between cocoa and cacao.

Cacao has a more bitter, earthy taste with nutty undertones, while cocoa has a sweeter and smoother taste.

Cacao is commonly used in raw food recipes that require a more natural flavour. Cocoa is commonly used in desserts, baked goods, and chocolate products.
