Waffle is a classic breakfast dish that has gained popularity all over the world. Cooked until golden brown and crispy, waffles are served with fruit curd, chocolate sauce and others. Take a look at how to make a classic waffle batter at home.

1 egg 225g self-raising flour 1 tbsp golden caster sugar (optional) 250ml milk 50g butter, melted and cooled ½ tsp vanilla extract (optional) 1 tbsp sunflower or vegetable oil maple syrup and icing sugar, to serve (optional)

Crack the eggs in a bowl and add in the flour, and a pinch of salt.

Add the sugar, then gradually whisk in the milk followed by the melted butter until smooth. Add the vanilla extract.

Whisk the batter well to achieve a smooth consistency.

Heat the waffle maker and brush oil in it.
