Christmas 2023: Make These Easy And Sweet Kulkuls For Dessert

A traditional Goan sweet that is especially prepared around the time of Christmas, kulkuls are an easy dessert glazed with sugar and coconut milk. Ridged in appearance that is similar to fusilli pasta shapes, the delicacy is especially popular amongst the Indian Catholic communities across the country.

INGREDIENTS

1 cup all-purpose flour ¼ cup powdered sugar ¼ cup semolina 2 teaspoons ghee ¼ teaspoon baking soda ½ cup coconut/whole milk 1 pinch salt Oil, for frying

STEP 1

Combine the dry ingredients with ghee in a bowl and mix well, before adding the milk and kneading into a soft dough.

STEP 2

Allow the dough to rest for 15 minutes and divide the dough into tiny portions.

STEP 3

Roll each morsel on the back of a fork by spreading it thinly using your thumb, until each piece develops a ridge-like outer surface.

STEP 4

Repeat the process until you have enough and fry them in hot oil until golden brown.

Sprinkle sugar on the fried kulkuls while still hot and serve once cooled completely.
