Chinese Bao Buns: A Perfect Savoury Snack To Enjoy

Chinese bao buns are soft, pillowy steamed buns filled with a delicious savoury stuffing, making them a popular street food snack in China and around the world. Made from a simple dough, these buns are surprisingly easy to prepare at home, and the filling options are endless. Here's how to make them: 

Ingredients 

Warm Water- 1/4 Cup Yeast- 3/4 Tsp Sugar- 1 Tbsp AP Flour- 1 Cup Milk Powder- 1 Tbsp Salt- 1/4 Tsp Baking Powder- 1/4 Tsp Oil- 1 Tbsp 

Stuffing Ingredients 

Oil- 2 Tsp Paneer- 100 Gms Salt- 1 Tsp Cashews- 1 Tbsp Garlic- 2 Schezwan Chutney- 3 Tbsp Onion- 1 Yellow Bell Pepper- 1 Green Bell Pepper- 1 Green Chilli- 2 Chilli Powder- 1 Tsp Fresh Coriander- 1 Tbsp Pepper Powder- 1/2 Tsp Soya Sauce- 1 Tsp Ketchup- 1 Tbsp 

Step 1 

Sauté garlic, chilli, cashews, and onion in oil. Add bell peppers with salt & pepper. Cook until they lose water and dry up. 

Step 2

Add paneer, coriander, Schezwan, soya sauce, and ketchup. Cook for 2-3 mins and switch off the flame. Let it cool down completely before filling. 

Step 3

For the dough, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it rest for 5 mins. Then add flour, milk powder, salt, baking powder, and oil. Knead into a smooth dough and let it rise for an hour. 

Step 4

Divide the dough into small balls and roll them out into discs. Place a spoonful of stuffing in the center and pleat to seal.

Steam the buns on high flame for 5 mins, then reduce to low and steam for 10 more mins. Let them rest for 5 mins before serving. Enjoy the fluffy, flavourful bao buns!
