Shami kebabs are popular street snacks in India, especially in the northern region. These are prepared with either mutton or chicken, but if you prefer a plant-based diet, you can savour this delicious recipe by replacing meat with chickpeas. Here is how to make vegan shami kebabs.
2 cups onions 2 cups boiled chickpeas 2 tbsp ginger garlic paste 7-8 mint leaves 1 tsp chilli powder 2 tbsp coriander leaves Oil for pan-frying 2 tsp cumin powder Salt to taste ¾ cups gram flour or bread crumbs
First, cook onions by sauteing them in a pan until they turn sweet and soft.
Add chickpeas, onions, spices, coriander leaves, ginger-garlic paste, and salt in a blender and turn the ingredient into a paste.
Take the paste out in a bowl and add besan to it which will act as a binding agent.
Make small tikkis with this mixture and keep them aside for some time to hold.
Heat oil in a pan and add 2-3 tikkis at once. Pan-fry them until the crust turns crispy.
Serve them hot with the chutney of your choice.
