Chhath Puja 2022: Special Foods For The Day

By Jasmine Kaur

From thekua to rasiyaw and kasar, there are plenty of sweets and savouries that you can have on Chhath Puja this year.

Kasar

Also known as rice flour ladoos, they are covered in coconut and ghee and are decadent. Loaded with dry fruits, they are a must-have on this day.

Rasiyaw

A Bihari counterpart of kheer, rasiyaw, unlike regular milk pudding, is made with jaggery, milk and water and paired with piping hot pooris on Chhath puja.

Laal Saag

A healthy leafy vegetable, laal saag is spruced up with red chillies and ginger and served in the prasad thali for the festival.

Thekua

Any Chhath puja celebration is incomplete without the quintessential mithai, thekua. Made with flour and jaggery, this deep-fried treat is a delight to the taste buds.

Kaddu Ki  Subzi

Kaddu aka pumpkin is another important element of the festive feast. Made with rock salt and accompanied with pooris, the subzi is a staple on the plate.

Hara Chana

Soaking the green chickpeas in water overnight is quite common during this time as a spicy subzi with chillies is prepared next day and served alongside pooris.
