Murukku, also known as chakli in other parts of the country, is a popular South Indian snack usually enjoyed with a cup of tea or coffee. It is a crispy treat that features chaotic swirls that have now become a part of its appeal. Here's a recipe:
2 cups of rice flour 1/2 cup urad dal flour 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds 1 teaspoon sesame seeds 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida 1 tablespoon of butter Salt to taste Water as needed Oil for frying
Mix flours, cumin, sesame, asafoetida, salt, and butter. Add water to form a soft dough.
Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
Fill a murukku press or piping bag with dough. Shape into spirals. Fry until golden and crisp. Drain on paper towels.
Cool completely before storing.
