The nine-day long fast, according to the Hindu community in India, commenced on March 22 this year and will last upto March 31.
To keep oneself energetic and active during this fasting season of Navratri, it is essential to keep these diet tips in mind.
Since one is fasting and cannot eat certain foods, it is essential to eat small portions of food at frequent intervals to avoid inflammation or overeating and prevent indigestion.
Eating rich and heavy meals like pooris, parathas, fried cutlets etc. is not good in the long run. Instead, opt for fresh juices, fruits, salad bowls, light protein snacks etc.
During this time, intake of appropriate amount of liquids is also essential. Consuming water, coffee, tea, soups and other such beverages helps you retain your energy levels.
While several packets of vrat-friendly snacks are available in the market, it is best to make them at home with less oil and saturated fats.
So instead of frying that pakora or poori, try to cook it on a tawa. Sauté or grill vegetables instead of frying them as it consumes more oil.
