The hot Indian summers call for foods that are cooling, hydrating and easy on the stomach. Here are a few summer delights to try this season: 

Aam Panna  

A refreshing drink made from raw mangoes, cumin, mint and sugar. Provides instant energy and cools the body.  

Dahi Vada    

It is a delicious snack made by soaking lentil dumplings in a yoghurt-based sauce.  

Cucumber Sandwiches 

A summer snack made with sliced cucumber, cream cheese and slices of bread.   

Golgappas   

Crispy, hollow puris filled with spiced potatoes, chickpeas, chutneys and flavoured water. Provides instant hydration.   

Watermelon

Water-rich and sweet, eaten as juice or fruit. Helps keep the body cool.  

Kokum Sharbat   

This drink, made from the kokum fruit, has cooling properties. It is sometimes flavoured with lemon and sugar.  

Chaats  

Snacks like fruit chaat, raj kachori, dahi papdi chaat, etc. are tangy, spicy and served chilled.  

Shikanji  

This is a lemon and spice-based drink. The addition of soda makes it fizzy and refreshing.

It's known as the king of fruits in India. Eaten plain or as milkshakes, lassi, juices, pickles, or chutneys.
