By Shireen Jamooji

Native to Brazil cachaça- like dark rum - is made from sugarcane.

Cachaça Pronounced: KAA-sha-sa.

It's the core ingredient of their national cocktail, the Caipirinha.

The aged version is darker, more yellow and at least 50% of the liquor needs to be aged for at least one year.

If cachaça contains more than 6 grams of added sugar per litre, it's known as 'sweetened cachaça.

It has over 400 years of history and was originally given to slaves as a morning beverage.

They used to give turkeys large quantities of cachaça before slaughter to calm them down.
