We don't blame you if the word 'mozzarella' only brings one type of cheese to your mind as many people aren't aware of the other varieties. Mozzarella is usually sprinkled on top of your pizza and is a popular cheese. This cheese with Italian origins has six different varieties. From fresh mozzarella, burrata to smoked mozzarella. There is something for everyone.

Fresh Mozzarella

Creamy, fresh and mildly flavoured. This cheese is packaged in small containers before being sold. The containers are often filled with whey or water.

Mozzarella di Bufala

Di bufala translates to water buffalo and it was buffalo milk which was first used to make mozzarella. It's harder and more expensive.

Mass-Produced Mozzarella

This one has a firmer texture and a rubbery mouthfeel than fresh mozzarella. This variety in particular melts well without becoming too runny.

Scamorza

A dried but firmer cousin of mozzarella which is made in the same way. This cheese is sold in the shape of a ball or pear.
