Bread is mostly consumed as a breakfast dish almost all around the world. It is either consumed as bread toast, bread omelets or sandwich and others. Bread comes in different types such as white bread, brown bread or multi-grain bread. Most commonly, white and brown bread are widely consumed. There are some specific differences between them. Take a look:
White bread is made from endosperm of the wheat grain which gives its characteristics white colour. On the other hand, brown bread is made from all the parts of the wheat grain – bran, endosperm and germ, which gives the brown colour.
White bread are made from refined wheat flour – that is wheat grains are processed to remove bran and germ. Brown bread are made from whole wheat flour – that is they are not processed to remove bran and germ
To make the white bread appear more white, chemicals like benzoyl peroxide, chlorine dioxide and potassium bromate are added. Brown bread are rich in vitamin B-6 and E, magnesium, folic acid, zinc copper and manganese.
White bread is softer than brown bread as it lacks bran and germ, whereas brown bread is less soft as it contains bran.
Brown bread has high fibre which can make you feel satiated and full while consuming less calories. This is not the case with white bread
When it comes to nutrients, brown bread is more healthy than white bread as it contains more vitamins and minerals.
