A brandy-based dessert cocktail that rose to popularity during the early 20thcentury, is also known as Alexander in today’s day and age. The key to nailing the perfect proportions is to go easy on the sweetener and cream and add more brandy to the mix, which you could also replace with gin, if preferred.

INGREDIENTS

40 ml brandy 25 ml white creme de cacao 20 ml heavy cream Freshly grated nutmeg or cocoa powder

METHOD

Place a stemmed cocktail glass in the freezer. Meanwhile, add some ice to a shaker along with the brandy, heavy cream and crème de cacao and shake well. Strain into the chilled glass and serve with a sprinkling of nutmeg or cocoa powder.
