Some of the greatest innovations come from unexpected accidents. Thats certainly true for innovative dishes like murruku sandwich. Born out of a fortunate accident, the murukku sandwich is one of the most popular street delicacies of Chennai that’s very easy to make at home as well. Learn the recipe.
Murruku (store-bought or homemade) 1/2 cup green coriander-mint chutney 1/2 cup sweet tamarind chutney 1 small cucumber, thinly sliced 1 small tomato, thinly sliced 1 small onion, thinly sliced 1 boiled potato, thinly sliced 1/4 cup grated carrots 1/4 cup grated cheese (optional) Chaat masala to taste Salt to taste Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish
Lay out murukkus on a flat plate. Spread green chutney on half of murrukus and tamarind chutney on the other half.
Layer sliced tomatoes, onion, cucumber, and potato slices on top of chutney-spread murrukus. Sprinkle chaat masala and salt on vegetables. Add grated carrots and cheese for texture.
Place the tamarind murruku on top and press it to make it stick together. Secure with a toothpick.
Garnish with cilantro, shredded cheese, and chaat masala and serve immediately.
